Brassai was heavily influenced by GOETHE

my encounter with Goethe was shattering,

particularly coming at the stage when feelings of apprehension about life are uppermost, and readily reinforced by rebellion and doubt; the last thing I expected was salvation when I began to read him.

But the electricity that produced such a violent shock in previously unimagined ares of my being

forced me to take notice of something that would not only change for me the way the world looked,

but its whole fabric.

I wonder

if a mind is so resigned to wandering aimlessly in a miserable vacuum has ever made such a complete turn about,

coming triumphantly

back to life,

filling the nervous system with stars

&

the bones with constellations of them

to become part of the

multiplicity
